STUDIO INFORMATION
The Echo Lab is a comfortable and affordable recording studio located 10 minutes outside of Denton, Texas (38 mi/61 km north of Dallas) in the woods of Denton county. Owners/engineers Matthew Barnhart, Matt Pence, and Dave Willingham have recorded a number of local and regional artists, and have been nominated for and/or won several music awards for engineering, including a Grammy each for Brave Combo's 25th anniversary album, Let's Kiss.
We created this space as a place musicians could come to record their music with quality equipment and understanding engineers. Some of our clients include Touch and Go Records (The New Year), Merge Records (American Music Club), Hollywood Records (The Polyphonic Spree), Jade Tree Records (Ester Drang), New West Records (The Drams), and Deep Elm Records (Slowride, Lewis, Red Animal War). A larger list of clients is available and being updated often.
We record mainly on 2" 24 track analog and a Cubase digital audio workstation with 24-bit external AD/DA conversion. (ProTools LE is available as well.) Mixing can be done to 1/2" analog, 1/4" analog, or 24-bit digital.
Our live room is 800 sq ft (14 ft ceiling), with adjustable acoustic properties. (.7 sec reverb time is the average). The isolation booth is 125 sq ft, with a ceiling height of 12 ft. The control room is 16 ft x 22 ft, with a small adjacent iso room leading into the lounge. The lounge features a big TV, DirectTV, Sony PlayStation 2, and a few fine films (Fight Club, Memento, Army of Darkness, etc...) and a nice collection of music DVDs. We also have a shower, kitchenette, and wireless internet for your convienience.
CLIENT APARTMENT
We have a small efficiency apartment next door to the studio available to rent for our out-of-town clients. It has a shower, kitchenette, beds, wireless internet, and satellite TV, all for less that you'd pay at a Motel 6. If you're interested in staying here during your session, let us know and we can discuss rates.
MASTERING
While we are not a mastering studio (and beware of any recording studio that bills itself as such), we have the ability to do, and have done a lot of, CD mastering for people on extremely tight budgets.
INTERNSHIPS and EMPLOYMENT
We have no internships or direct employment opportunities available at this time (though freelance engineers are more than welcome to bring their projects here).
